In a notable development for aviation safety, India will host the Asia-Pacific Aircraft Accident Investigators' meeting for the first time in New Delhi from October 28 to 31.
Approximately 90 investigators from various countries in the Asia-Pacific region are anticipated to attend this significant gathering, as stated in an official announcement.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) will organize the event on behalf of the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
This annual meeting will see participation from representatives of ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) member states and various international organizations.
This marks India's inaugural hosting of the APAC-AIG meeting, with around 90 delegates from aircraft accident investigation authorities across the Asia-Pacific, along with ICAO representatives.
Typically, the meeting rotates among ICAO member states in the region.
Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu is scheduled to inaugurate the event on October 28.
Discussions will cover various facets of aircraft accident investigations, including methodologies and reporting protocols.
The meetings aim to foster the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and information among investigation authorities.
Additionally, the group seeks to enhance collaboration to bolster accident and incident investigation capabilities in the Asia-Pacific region.
On October 28 and 29, a workshop will focus on aircraft accident investigation topics, featuring participation from AAIB, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) officials, and international attendees.
Discussions among ICAO member state representatives and AAIB officials will take place on October 30 and 31.
The AAIB is tasked with categorizing safety occurrences involving aircraft in Indian airspace, classifying them as accidents, serious incidents, or incidents.
It conducts thorough investigations into accidents and recommends measures to enhance safety.
Currently, the AAIB is managing around 25 aircraft accident investigations, including the tragic Air India crash that resulted in 260 fatalities on June 12.
